About Felixstowe
Old Felixstowe was a hamlet centred around a pub and church having stood around on the site before the Norman Conquest, even before that it also goes back to medieval times.
Felixstowe played its part during the first and second world wars as a naval port and excellent defence in stopping any invasion from Germany from air and landings.
At the turn of the century, tourism increased with the construction of a pier and with an amusement arcade, this became a very fashional resort. In 1898 Felixstowe had its own railway station the well-preserved station building now houses a supermarket and other shops even a local community radio station called Felixstowe Radio which has now moved.
It also has a great bus route to the county town of Ipswich. Due to the port expansion back in the late 70s onwards road network has improved dramatically as well. Know the port of Felixstowe is a major port for a large contribution of containers arriving in the UK and hold the biggest container port in the UK.
